How to Create Natural Looking Lash Extensions for Clients

Not all clients want the same look. Yes, it’s true!  And not all clients want the dramatic look, some like the classic and natural-looking eyelashes.

Everyone has their own preferences, especially on how they look. We have to accept and respect their choices. But it is our responsibility to give them the right look that our clients want to have. Let’s find out how to create natural-looking eyelash extensions.

Classic vs. volume lash extensions

Classic lash extensions

Simple, beautiful, and natural-looking best describe classic lash extensions. They are applied on a 1:1 ratio. One extension is applied for every piece of a natural lash. This provides a more natural look that doesn’t scream your client has lash extensions. This type of lash extension is ideal for clients with lots of lashes already but who want to add more length.

The application of natural lash extensions usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. There are a wide variety of materials, curls, styles, and thicknesses to choose from to provide the results your client is looking for.

Volume and mega volume eyelash extensions

Volume eyelash extensions vary from natural to a more dramatic and full look. Compared to the classic’s 1:1 ratio, with volume lashes, multiple extensions are applied to a single natural lash. If two extensions are applied to a single natural lash, it is called 2D, and if three extensions are applied, it is called 3D, and so on. Typically each volume fan will have 2 to 5 extensions. This method is called Russian volume.

The difference between volume lashes and mega volume lashes is the number of extensions used to create each fan. Mega volume fans use between 6 to 16 extensions.

Illustration of Russian volume eyelash extension types. Cartel Lash

The lash extensions used for volume lashes are thinner compared to classic. They are usually 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07 diameter which is lighter and thinner making it possible to attach multiple extensions to a single natural lash. The whole process for volume lash extension application lasts for 2 - 3 hours. This will depend on if you, the lash technician, made pre-made fans prior to the appointment.

Remember, do not cluster a LOT of lash extensions in a single natural lash. It is called a cluster and it is not good for your client’s natural lashes. And it may cause damage to your clients lashes.

How do they compare

Classic lashes only require little prep time making them more affordable and the usual go-to for new clients. They are easier and quicker to do. While volume lashes need a higher level of skill and take longer to do. However, you can minimize the application time for volume lashes by prepping the fans beforehand.

If your client is looking for a more natural look, go for classic extensions. But if they want a lighter, fluffier, and fuller look, go for the volume lash extensions. You must be wondering how volume lash extensions are lighter and fluffier, right? The answer is the lash adhesive. Less lash glue is used for volume extensions compared to classic extensions. The result is fluffier and lighter lashes.

Creating a natural lash extension look

This is the most basic look that many lash lovers go for. However, there are a few key elements you should know and understand in order to properly achieve that natural look your client wants. Let us start!

Length

Technically, the length of the lash extensions you will be using depends on the length of your client’s natural lashes. But be extra careful of using longer lash extensions because if you go too long, the lash adhesive’s retention will decrease or cause it to break leading to premature shedding.

If your client wants longer lashes, go for finer ones. It will balance the weight of the extensions and it will not be too heavy.

Woman getting classic eyelash extensions by lash tech. Cartel Lash

In addition, ask your client if they wear eyeglasses. You have to consider the length of the extensions you will be applying. They shouldn't brush their glasses and it is recommended to not use lash extensions longer than 12mm. However, this can vary. Do not hesitate to ask your client what they prefer.

Curl

The letters used to identify each curl type looks just like the letters.

  • J curl: It has the least amount of curl from all the curl types. The curl is hardly noticeable, only at the front. It looks like the letter J.
  • B curl: It is the go-to curl type. This curl type has a lesser curl and it looks more natural. The curl is a little bit more noticeable compared to the J curl.
  • C curl: This is the most common curl used by lots of lash artists. It matches most people’s natural lash curl.
  • D curl: It is the most dramatic and visible curl type. This type has the most lift and is more obvious compared to the other types. It is also the most popular and used curl type.
  • L curl:  This has the most curl but they are ideal for clients with hooded eyelids.

However, it is necessary for you to be careful in choosing the curl type you are going to use. Make sure the one you choose will look great for the eye shape and eyelids of your client. Check your curl type chart to make sure you are using the right one.

Diameter

There are various diameters or thicknesses to choose from. Each diameter is made for different purposes. But, just to be safe, it is best to use a natural diameter. Meaning, match the thickness of the lash extensions with your client’s natural lashes. This is the safest and most efficient technique you can use.

Young woman with natural eyelash extensions. Cartel Lash

While natural lashes are usually at most, 0.15mm. So, don’t go thicker than that because they will be heavier than your client’s natural lashes. It can tug and cause damage to your client’s natural lashes.

Remember, the number of lash extensions you will be using will also depend on the thickness and length you are going to use. It will depend on your client’s natural lashes.

Color

One of the best ways to make sure the lash extensions look natural is if the color is close or the same as the natural lashes of your clients. Black lash extensions are the most commonly used but brown lash extensions are a great way to add a nice dazzling look. Plus, they look lovely when the sun shines on them.

Type

There are 2 main types of lash extensions: classic and volume. They are usually identified by thickness. Classic extensions are thicker compared to volume lashes that are finer and spread out like a fan. However, it is still worthwhile to look at hybrid lashes.

Woman with eyelash extensions showing her new natural set. Cartel Lash

Hybrid is a mixed set of classic and volume lashes. Usually, it is a 50% classic and 50% volume, some even use 70% classic and 30% volume. It mostly depends on what your client wants. This is the ideal type if your client wants more volume but not too full.

Practice and experience will help make the decision-making easier for you. Don’t worry if you are encountering some problems. That is normal. All you need to do is be patient and practice, practice, practice!

The Eyelash Extension Process: A Step-by-step Guide

Have you ever had a new client ask what the eyelash extension process is like? But didn't know how to break down the information in an easily understandable way? Well, we're here to help you communicate all the relevant information to your new clients to help them feel more at ease for their first lash appointment with you. And keep them coming back!

What are eyelash extensions

Lash extensions are semi-permanent fibers, faux, synthetic, mink, or silk fibers glued by hand, one by one by a professional lash artist using a specially formulated lash glue. They are normally applied onto the lash line and not onto bottom lashes.

Woman with eyelash extensions using a lash mirror to show the bottom of lashes. Cartel Lash

What are the types of eyelash extensions

Lash businesses carry various eyelash extensions. From curl types to color, length, and type of material used, there are a lot of choices to create a specific look. The types of eyelash extensions are:

  • Classic lash extensions
  • Hybrid lash extensions
  • Volume lash extensions
  • Mega volume lash extensions

What material are eyelash extensions made from

Mink Lash Extensions

This is one of the most common animal fur materials. They usually come from the tail fur of Chinese minks and Siberian minks. The most premium one is from Siberian minks.

If you are new to eyelash extensions, having mink lashes might be the one for you. It gives a natural look. The best thing about mink extensions is they are lightweight and fluffy.

Before and after of eyelash extension procedure with mink lashes on woman. Cartel Lash

The drawback of this type of extension is they are made from animal fur. If you have allergies or sensitivity to animal fur or any ethical concerns regarding how these extensions are handled, mink eyelash extensions are not for you. They are also on the expensive side.

Sable Lash Extensions

For finer and fluffier lashes, sable lash extensions, like LBLA Royal Sable Lash, are a great option. It is the lightest possible material for lash extensions available.

Just like mink extensions, if you have allergies to animal fur or any ethical concerns, sable lash extensions are not for you.

Fox Lash Extensions

This type is very soft and has a reddish tone which makes it very on-trend right now. They are lightweight and give a natural look.

Woman with blue eyes with fox lash extensions. Cartel Lash

Some drawbacks are they need a lot of upkeep. These extensions must be permed to give them a curl. If you don’t like to iron your lashes or have allergies to animal fur or any ethical concerns, this is not for you. In addition, they are not always available in lash salons.

Faux Mink Lash Extensions

A great alternative to the expensive mink extensions. Faux mink lash extensions are 100% human-made. If you want that natural and fluffy look you get from mink extensions but allergic to animal fur, faux mink extensions are the way to go!

Silk Lash Extensions

This type is great for parties if you are going for a special occasion look. Silk lash extensions, like Max2Originale Silk Single Length, are on the heavier side and generally not very comfortable for everyday wear.

Synthetic Lash Extensions

This is the heaviest and the least natural-looking of them all. They are a sheen that doesn’t look natural at all. Some people find them too heavy for their eyelids.

There are a lot of types of lash extensions, these are just some of the most common ones.

What is the application process

First and foremost, an appointment needs to be booked. Let your client know to show up to their appointment with no make up on or around their eyes.

1. Choosing type and length of lash extension

There are a lot of choices when it comes to lash extensions. This is the process where you can discuss the options with your client. You can recommend options depending on the following:

  • Eye shape
  • Size of eyes
  • Eyelids
  • Orientation of eyes
  • Eye color
  • Natural lashes
  • Preference
  • Allergies or sensitivities

Eyelash extensions can be applied individually or in a cluster. Clients can choose from a full set or a partial set. A full set is when extensions are applied to natural lashes, individually. While a partial set is where extensions are attached to eyelashes from the middle to the outside of the lash line. The key here is customization. Clients have many choices and all you have to do is help them decide which one suits their taste and needs.

2. Prep the eye area

Lash extension prep is very important. It includes sanitizing your hands. Clients will be asked to wear a lash headband so hair will not be blown to their eyes.

Ask your client to their eyes and make sure not to open them throughout the entire procedure. You will sanitize the eye area using lint-free cotton rounds then put under eye gel pads making sure they don’t get into their eyes. Then, with medical-grade foam tape, you will tape your bottom lashes to ensure they won’t intervene with the procedure.

Eyelash extension procedure prep with lash tape, microswabs, primer. Cartel Lash

Put an eyelash primer on a micro swab and dap it gently on their lash line. Around this time, make sure to shake your lash adhesive and put a pea-sized portion on a jade stone. Every 20-35 minutes (depending on the adhesive you're using), put a fresh dot on it. The reason behind this is to cure your lash glue. This will lessen the fumes coming out from the glue which can cause eye irritation.

The last step on our eyelash prep is sanitizing the eyelash tool including the most important one, the tweezers.

3. Application of each extension

This is where all the action happens. Don’t worry, clients can relax by chatting with you, listening to music, or taking a nap. All they need to do is lay down, keep their eyes closed, and relax.

Using lash tweezers, separate all their natural lashes individually. Then apply one lash fan to every one natural lash. Lash mapping will also be helpful in this stage. This will make attaching extensions easier and even.

Next, put every lash one by one by hand using a tweezer. Then dip one end on the lash adhesive and apply it to their natural lashes. Throughout the application, clients will feel a mascara wand. This is normal. Explain to your client you will need to brush their lashes every now and then to make sure each eyelash is separated.

This whole process of attaching extensions will take 1-4 hours depending on the type of eyelash extension chosen.

4. Drying time

After attaching all the extensions, clients will now proceed to the drying time. Use nano mister to help cure your lashes quicker and lessen drying time.

How long will it take for lash glue to dry? It depends on the adhesive used. Especially if clients have allergies to some ingredients, a sensitive lash glue will be used and it typically takes longer to cure.

5. Remove tape and gel

Once the lash glue is dry, apply a sealer to extend the life of eyelash extensions. Then remove the sensitive tape and eye pads. At this point, let your client know it's safe to open their eyes to see their new set of eyelash extensions!

How long do they last

They last for 4 - 6 weeks depending on how well clients take care of their lash extensions. But they will need to go back for fill-ins at the 2-week mark.

How to care for eyelash extensions

There are a lot of things clients will need to do after their eyelash extensions application. For a more in-depth discussion, check out our previous post on How to Teach Proper Care for Lash Extensions. It talks about all the dos and don’ts you need to know, to prolong your eyelash extensions’ life.

How to Deal with Last Minute Eyelash Extension Cancellations

Emergencies and last-minute appointment cancellations happen to all of us. This is also true for clients who have lash appointments. That is why you need to know how to handle last-minute cancellations and what you can do when it does happen.

In the moment

Call your client. Politely talk to them and ask if they can reschedule their other appointment that is in conflict with their scheduled lash extension appointment. Obviously, they can’t reschedule if there is an emergency like accidents, family members getting sick, or any medical emergencies.

If it is just brunch with a friend, maybe your client can reschedule the brunch and move it to dinner. Remember, BE POLITE!

You can mention, after the 2 week mark, if the appointment is postponed, you will need to charge for a whole new set of eyelash extensions. Which can take hours compared to a touch-up and the differences in pricing. This might motivate your client to come to the scheduled appointment.

If your client can’t reschedule their other appointment, move on to the next step.

Ask your client to reschedule

If your client can’t reschedule their other appointment, maybe they want to reschedule. This way, you can still have an income.

Let them know that by rescheduling they don’t have to pay for the whole charge indicated in the cancellation policy.

The key here is, you need to be nice and polite while talking. I know it might be hard because of the sudden changes in your schedule, but it is important to make your clients feel you care and not just because of money.

Remind clients of cancellation policies

A cancellation policy is very important when you are running your own lash business. This will help you when you have cancellations. If you still don’t have this, I highly suggest making and implementing one. This is to protect yourself, your business, and your employees (if you have any). Remember, your time is precious. No need to spend it waiting if your client will arrive. Protect yourself and your investments.

This will be easy if you have an online booking system because they accept credit cards and online payments. Because there is a check box where the client needs to check before scheduling an appointment.

This box will require your clients to read and agree with the cancellation policy. If they can’t make it, you can easily charge your client for not showing up and you have the cancellation policy which your client agreed to as evidence.

Check your cancellation policy and remind your clients that they will be paying the percentage identified in your policy. Usually, lash businesses ask for 50% to 100% of the service price from their clients whenever there is a cancellation. You would be surprised how many clients became instant available when they hear this.

What to do in the future

Now that you know how to handle “in the moment” last-minute cancellations, the next step is to take precautionary measures. This way you are prepared and not lose your earnings. Here are steps you can do to help:

Interior of luxury lash salon for eyelash extensions. Cartel Lash

Have a client waitlist

Keep a list of clients who called in and wanted to have a schedule for that day. These are the clients you need to push back because there are no available slots for today.

When talking to your clients about being waitlisted, you have to let them know there are no guarantees that you can accommodate them for that day. But once there are vacancies or cancellations, you will let them know at once.

Take a booking deposit for new clients

All lash technicians experience, at least once, when clients don’t show up. This will still result in loss of profit and waste of your time.

Woman making online appointment and deposit for lash appointment. Cartel Lash.

It might be a good business strategy to start taking book deposits for your new clients. This way, they can get used to it and show up. For your old and trusted clients, you are already used to how they act and their habits. You know if they are going to show up to their appointments or not.

The booking deposits will vary depending on your decision. For reference, you can do competitors’ research and find out how much they require. You should include this in your cancellation policy.

Send out an appointment reminder 48 hours before

Sending out appointment reminders 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment can save you and your client from a lot of hassle. You can use the booking system you use for this (if they have the said features). If you are not using a booking system and do it manually, you have to send reminders manually as well. Send out emails and/or text messages to remind your clients.

Reminder Planner Calendar concept on a laptop for lash appointment. Cartel Lash

When sending out reminders, do not forget to include the cancellation policy your clients agreed upon prior to scheduling their appointments. This way, they will be aware of the consequences of canceling and not showing up at the designated time. In addition, they won’t be able to use the excuse “I am not aware of the cancellation policy”.

There are people who do not read their emails and text messages, you might want to give them a call to remind them of their appointment.

Have clients fill out a form when they book

You won’t have to worry about this if you are using an online booking system. Because they will need to fill up the form provided, agree to the cancellation policy, and input their credit cards (if this is available in your plan), in order to book an appointment.

However, if you are doing this manually in your lash salon, asking your clients to fill out a form when they book an appointment will be very helpful. How? Because they will be able to provide contact information and you can also let them know about your cancellation policy. This is especially important for your new clients because you don’t know how to contact them yet.

Post on your social media of available last minute bookings

Posting on your business’s social media accounts can help fill in those last minute canceled appointments. But if you want to fill them faster, you need to throw in discounts and deals to attract more clients. This is also a great way to encourage and entice new clients to try your services.

Hand holding iPhone with social media apps. Cartel Lash

This is another reason how active social media accounts can help you with your business.

No shows and last minute cancellations are very disappointing especially for lash techs where every hour is important. However, if you are prepared and know what to do, you can minimize the loss and their negative impact on you and your business. Being prepared and staying calm in these situations is very important. Follow these tips, and you might even turn these challenging situations into more profitable ones.

9 Tips Before Launching Your Lash Business at Home

Are you thinking about starting your own lash business but don’t have enough capital yet? You can start it at your home!
Having a lash salon at home offers a lot of perks such as not needing to pay for rent on a building or high startup capital. It is also very convenient. But there are things you need to do first before launching your own lash business at home. Here are my 9 tips to help you get started:

1. Set up your social media

Posting images on your lash business’s social media accounts can greatly help boost your online presence and expand its reach. Most lash technicians use Instagram but some also use Facebook and Tik Tok.

Set up separate social media accounts for your business. Do not use your personal accounts. In this day and age, social marketing is necessary, convenient, and affordable. So it is a good idea to separate your personal life from your lash business.

Using social media to boost your lash businesses. Cartel Lash

Instagram is the most successful platform for most lash techs because it is very visual. You can post pictures and videos of the services and products you offer. But the most effective way is to provide social proof. There are types of social proof you can use in your business’s Instagram:

  • Expert: You can post experts endorsing or recommending the products and services you offer in your lash business.
  • Influencer: This is where an influencer endorses the products you sell or your services. It is a sure-fire way to help you increase and widen your reach.
  • User or Client: Your clients and customers can take photos in your lash salon and post them on their social media accounts. This is very useful and convenient because all you have to do is provide great service and ensure your client is happy with your services and products.

  • I advise you to allocate a space where your clients can take photos. Make sure your logo is on the wall, so when your client takes a photo, your business logo can also be seen.

    2. Have a business name, logo, and business cards

Of course, before starting a business you will need a business name and logo. Start with a business name. Choose a business name that is easy to spell, pronounce, and remember. Make sure the business name you choose is consistent with your brand. And don’t choose a name close to your competitors’ names. Because this might confuse your clients.

Brand extending into strategy, logo, design, marketing for lash business. Cartel Lash

After you settle with a business name, create a business logo. An effective logo should be:

    • Unique
    • Eye-catching
    • Memorable
    • Timeless
    • Easy to identify
    • Carries your brand
    • Reflects your business
    • Scalable
    • Simple

You have to know your brand to create a powerful logo. All the fonts and colors used should reflect your brand and theme. You can also use these colors and fonts in your business cards and designing your lash room. It is best to choose the color palette and fonts from the start. This will make it easy for you in the long run.

Now that you have a business name, logo, color palette, and fonts, you can use them on your business cards. It is very important to have a stock of business cards because you operate at home. You won’t have huge nameplates at the entrance, unlike a lash salon. By giving your business cards to your clients, friends, and family, they will have a way to contact you anytime to schedule an appointment.

    3. Design and decorate your lash room

The common problem when you start a lash business in your home is space. If you can’t allocate a big space, no problem! A small room will do. There are simple ways to help you decorate a small room and make it look spacious and welcoming.

Lash tech applying eyelash extensions on client at home. Cartel Lash

    Make use of natural light

If there is a window in your lash room, great! You can utilize it and make your room look bright and spacious. Use sheer blinds or curtains to add a more natural feel. Plus, you can save some money because you won’t have to install a lot of lights.

    Add mirrors

Mirrors create the illusion of more space. When hanging the mirror, make sure that it is facing the window.

Round mirror in interior of lash room for eyelash extensions. Cartel Lash

    Keep everything organized

Clutter will make a room look smaller and cramped. It is best to keep everything organized. Use small cabinets or a lash trolley. This will make it easier for you to look for products, tools, and accessories you use for your eyelash extension application.

Look for the right lash bed

Finding the right lash bed is very important especially if you have a limited space to work on. A portable lash bed is a great option. It has a rectangular shape which you can place beside a wall.

White eyelash extension bed on green background. Cartel Lash

Don’t go for recliner chairs because they are bulkier and should be placed at the center. Here are some things you should consider when looking for an eyelash extension bed:

    • Ergonomic comfort
    • Adjustable Height
    • Optional Mobility
    • Foldable and portable
    • Warranty

    Minimalism is the key

Decorate your lash room using the color palettes you chose. Make sure it is comfortable and welcoming. Add wall art, lash quotes, certificates, photos, and nice soft blankets and pillows. Make sure not to use too many prints because they will make your space look chaotic. It is best to be minimalist this time!

If you have a bigger space you can use as a lash room, you will have more freedom to add more personal touches. But whatever size your lash room is, make sure to allocate a wall or space where your clients can take photos. Make sure your business logo and name are visible in this area.

    4. Set your hours and prices

Create a schedule and a lash menu. It is best to set the hours you will be working, this way you can still separate your personal life from your professional life. Stick to the working hours you set. It is best to make sure you stick with your schedule to create a routine. Working at home has its own advantages but it also comes with disadvantages. I highly recommend creating a routine and sticking with it.

Lash brush or spoolie brushing through eyelash extensions. Cartel Lash

When creating a menu and setting the prices for your services, I recommend doing competitors’ research. This way you can have an idea of how much your competitors charge. Remember, you are just starting and it is best not to charge too high or possible customers might get turned off.

Be creative in making your menu. Offer the services you usually get from regular lash salons like fills, removal, application, and even gift cards. You can add other services like brow shaping and tinting. Just ensure you can do them all and provide amazing results.

    5. Determine your financial goals and monthly

Creating financial goals is very important for all businesses. It will help you monitor your savings and limit how much you spend. Plus, having a set financial goal will help you choose what marketing strategies you can use to grow your business.

Your financial goals can be your motivation to work efficiently, produce stunning lash extensions, and be more mindful of your purchases.

    6. Figure out your budget and monthly expenses

Your budget will determine how many products, tools, and accessories you can purchase. Include your monthly expenses in your budget.

Create a list of all your monthly expenses. This will include a list of all the products, tools, and lash accessories you need. Remove all things that are not a priority right now. For example, the lash accessories, products, or tools you may not need quite yet. Stick with the basics until you have more room in your budget. You can purchase these items when your lash business grows and you have more money to spend.

Financial planning for lash business at home. Cartel Lash

Then, based on your list, you can easily figure out your budget. This is very important when you are starting your business because your income is limited. Make sure to stick to your budget.

    7. Practice your technique on friends and family

At the start of every business, your family and friends will be your first clients. That is totally okay. It is a great way for you to gain experience and improve your skills. Plus, they will surely post on their social media accounts to show their support. It’s free advertising!

Relationships are very important in the lash business. Your family and friends will most likely support your business. Also, try to expand your social network. This can be tricky if you stay at home. But there are ways and options to help you out. You can join or attend groups depending on your interest. There are even groups supporting small businesses that can provide a ton of support.

    8. Find a reliable booking system

The traditional way to book and schedule appointments is with a pen and paper. But these days, there are more modern and reliable booking systems you can use. Check your options, look at the reviews, and choose a booking system that is easy to use and trustworthy.

Having to schedule and reschedule appointments manually are prone to chaos and mistakes. It is best to have a reliable booking system to help you properly schedule all your appointments and avoid double booking.

    9. Invest in quality products

There is a common misconception that high-quality lash products should be expensive. NOT TRUE! There are a lot of high-quality eyelash extension products, tools, and lash accessories that are affordable and long-lasting.

Eyelash extension treatment products, tools, and equipment. Cartel Lash

Do your research. Remember, not all expensive products are of good quality and not all affordable products are low quality. It is best to invest in high-quality products from the start. You will get accustomed to these products and make a great impression on your clients.

How to Choose the Right Eyelash Glue

If you are new to the lash industry, shopping for eyelash adhesives can be a daunting task because there are a lot of options to choose from. Keep in mind that no lash glue fits all. There are certain factors you need to consider before adding products to your carts.

Don’t worry, let us help you out. We found the most essential information to check when shopping for lash adhesives.

What to look for in eyelash glue

All lash artists want to ensure the safety of their clients, overall look, and retention of the lash adhesives they use. These three things should always be your top priority. However, each client has their own unique needs, which you should consider especially if they have any allergies.

Woman getting a new set of eyelash extensions by lash tech. Cartel Lash

It is best to have different kinds of lash glues at your disposal to ensure you can apply eyelash extensions on different clients. Remember, there are people with sensitive skin and allergies. You should be able to cater to their needs as well.

There are 6 main factors you need to consider when shopping for lash adhesives.

    Ingredients

Some ingredients manufacturers put in products can cause allergies. It is tricky to pinpoint which exactly is the one causing the allergic reaction. Here are the top 2 ingredients that can cause allergic reactions:

    Cyanoacrylate

Cyanoacrylate is the main ingredient in all lash adhesives. It is always present in all lash adhesives and there are no alternatives for the extraordinary drying speed that this ingredient provides. All those quick-drying eyelash glues have cyanoacrylate in them but the percentages vary.

This ingredient attaches itself to any moisture it can find which is the eyes and nostrils. This is why these are the first places where you can find the symptoms. The common symptoms of cyanoacrylate allergy are watery eyes, a runny or blocked nose, sore throat, and headaches.

It is best to look for lash adhesives with low percentages of cyanoacrylate in your storage. They will be handy for clients with cyanoacrylate allergies.

    Carbon Black

Carbon black is mainly used as a dye in lash adhesives leaving a black coloring. It helps blend the lash extensions with the natural eyelashes making them look more natural without using any tints or makeup.

The solution for clients with carbon black allergies is to use clear lash adhesives like Untamed Artistry - Invisible Ink Clear Adhesive.

To make sure the lash glue you will be using will not cause any allergic reactions, it is best to try it out first with your client’s skin first. Some even try the adhesive prior to the appointment, around 2 days before the application to ensure no allergic reactions will happen.

    Drying Time

The drying time of your lash adhesives should depend on your speed, precision, and skills. To start with, it is best to use lash glues with not so quick drying time to ensure it will not cure before you are able to apply the eyelash extensions. It will give you more time to apply each lash without having to hurry.

As you improve, you will become faster and your movement will be more precise, you can use lash glues with a faster drying time. In other words, you and your eyelash adhesive should be able to keep up with each other.

    Price

Just like in shopping for clothes, shopping for lash adhesives can get out of control. When you are enjoying yourself, you tend to overlook the price tags on those things you are buying.

We recommend planning a budget and sticking with it. When you are searching for lash adhesives online, you can input the price range you are comfortable with. This way you won’t buy products that go beyond your budget. But the problem here is if you do not have any control when you are adding products to your cart. Make sure the total price will not go over your budget.

Keep in mind, these products come in small bottles and it is easy to finish them especially if you have a busy schedule. It is best if the ones you choose are affordable and within your budget. So, it will be easier for you to buy another one.

This ensures the price is proportional to the amount of eyelash glue you are getting. And also do research on the products and brands you are considering buying.

    Retention

One of the common questions clients ask is “how long will their lash extensions last?” Having a lash glue with long retention is a great asset in your lash salon or room. Clients don't want to return every week for refills and touch-ups. It can be a deal breaker if your lash extensions don’t last long.

However, some factors affect the retention and longevity of lash extensions. These are how well they are applied, the natural hair growth cycle of your client, and how well they are taken care of. It is best to let your client do these things beforehand.

    Sensitivity

Every client is different and they can be sensitive to some ingredients and too many fumes. It is best to equip your arsenal with a sensitive lash adhesive that you can use in these circumstances.

Sensitive eyelash glues are specially formulated to minimize fumes. But they are not entirely fume-free. The #1 reason why lash artists do not use them all the time is the retention doesn’t usually last that long.

It is very important to let your client know about this before the application to manage their expectations.

    Intended hair type

No lash glue is made the same. Each one has a special formula made for a target audience or usage. Depending on your client’s hair type—thick, thin, smooth, textured, or fine—you can choose different types of lash glues. You also have to consider the health of natural eyelashes. Do they have damage or not? What is the shape of the hair follicles? How about the texture? You have to consider these factors when choosing the lash glue you will use to prevent further damages to your client’s lashes.

It is best to use high viscosity adhesives when dealing with heavier or curlier lashes.

There are a lot of choices in the market. And shopping for lash glues can take a long time. At the end of the day, your preferences, your skill level, and your working environment should also be considered. Remember, the humidity and temperature in your lash room will greatly affect the retention of your lash glues. The cyanoacrylate is activated by the moisture in the air to start the curing process. If there is no moisture, the curing process will take longer and the retention will be weaker which can mess up your whole lash extension application.

Choosing the right one is all up to you. You can make adjustments depending on what you need and your preferences.

What to Look for in an Eyelash Extension Bed

Eyelash extension beds are one of the basic pieces of furniture you need in your lash room. It is where your clients will lay while you apply their eyelash extensions. The application process can take 1 to 3 hours depending on what service your client wants. The lashing bed you choose can greatly affect their comfort, as well as yours.

Here are 6 things you need to look for when finding the right eyelash extension bed for your space

    Ergonomic comfort

Not all beds are made equal, that includes lash extension beds. Making sure your lash bed is comfortable for your clients is very important. One factor to consider is how thick the cushion padding is. Over time, the padding will compress, resulting in little to no padding. When this happens the client will be able to feel the bed frame when lying down, making the lash bed uncomfortable.

Helping your clients get comfortable and relaxed is a sure way for you to ensure they will keep coming back to you.

You can also add lash pillows and blankets to your space. A lashing pillow will cradle your client’s head and neck providing them with lots of support, especially if they fall asleep during the service. Providing clients with these extras will help them fall asleep and in turn can make their service time a lot faster.

    Adjustable Height

Find a bed that fits you ergonomically and helps with your posture while sitting. In order to do this, the bed you purchase needs to be adjustable. Don’t forget to consider your clients, if your bed is too high your  5’0” client may not be able to safely and easily get on and off your bed. Also, if your bed is too low, clients may have a hard time lying down and getting up after the service.

Choose an eyelash extension bed with adjustable height so you and your client will both be comfortable throughout the whole session.

    Optional Mobility

The mobility of your lash bed will depend on whether you need wheels or not. Wheels will let you easily move the bed around your lash room. It will be easier for you if you suddenly want to redecorate and move around your furniture. However, this is not for everyone.

That being said, lash extension beds without wheels can also be moved around. They are just a bit trickier to move and a 2 person (maybe even 3 person) job.

The decision between a lash bed with or without wheels will depend on your preference.

    Foldable and portable

This lash bed is currently the most common type being used. The reason being is that it is comfortable, cheap and easily mobile. Choosing this type of bed can also depend on what type of services you offer. Do you offer mobile home services or will you stay in your lash salon? If you provide mobile home services, having a portable and foldable lash extension bed is the option for you as it is easy to pack up and carry after each service.

    Warranty

Ensure your lash bed has a warranty! This is very important if you are investing a lot of money into it.

Most lash beds are advertised as massage beds or tables, not lashing beds and may not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. But the majority of the larger massage companies will offer warranties on their lash beds which is great news for us, lash lovers!

Double check the lash bed you buy comes with warranty. This is a great way to ensure that you are getting what you paid for. Remember to read the warranty agreement carefully. Keep your receipts and put them in a safe place as well. This is very important if you need to use your warranty later.

    Good price

Don’t always go for cheaper eyelash extension beds. Cheaper doesn’t always equate to more savings. To make the lash beds cheaper, manufacturers need to use cheaper by-products meaning they are not always as sturdy and durable.

That being said, don’t always go for the most expensive lash beds either. Sometimes a high price does not always equal quality.

Balance is the key. Look for a lash bed with a good price tag and made from good-quality materials. Ensure it is durable, comfortable, and will fit the space and services you offer. Take the time to choose the right bed for you and your clients!

Why you should take the time to invest in a good lash extension bed

An eyelash extension application can last from an hour to 3 hours. This will depend on a lot of things including your expertise, the state of your client’s lash extensions, type of extensions, etc. Your client will need to sit or lie down for the whole duration of the application. This can be hard if your client is not comfortable in their position.

This is the main reason why you need to invest in a good lash extension bed.

Whenever your client walks into the lash salon to meet you and has a lash extension application, you need to be able to provide the best experience. That includes not only providing lovely eyelash extensions but also making it an unforgettable and amazing experience. This will make sure your client comes back to you.

If your lash bed is not comfortable and your lash room is not relaxing, your client will not have a good experience during the whole procedure.

Make sure your lash room is properly designed, including the lash bed.

The 10 Things You Must Know About Eyelash Extensions

For approximately 6,000 years women have utilized artificial means to enhance the appearance of their eyes. A current improvement in the actual enhancement of the woman's eyelashes is the invention of eyelash extension.

A false eyelash is a reproduction of a complete eyelash on a base that is glued to the eye lid around the bottom of the eyelashes. They can easily be removed and are only a short-term enhancement to improve the appearance of eyelashes.

An eyelash extension is a series of individual eyelashes that are glued to current eyelashes and will last for around 4 weeks before a touch up is needed.

    How Weighty Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions weigh virtually nothing and therefore there is little likelihood of the eye lid getting exhausted.

What On Earth Is An Eyelash Extension Made From?

Eyelash extensions can be created of organic real human hair, man made fiber, synthetic fiber or mink hair. The most commonly available eyelash extensions tend to be of man made fiber or even mink hair.

How Is An This Put on?

A good beautician will look at your eyelashes carefully to select those that are most likely to provide a stable foundation for the extension. Each individual eyelash extension is applied to an existing eyelash hair with a special glue. Each eyelid will require around 50 to 100 extensions to create a real looking eyelash.
